Work Packages

---

BIOVALUE is a 3-year project split up into 7 WPs, which are linked each-another to promote the cooperation among all the partners and for reaching the project target objectives. The Pert diagram shows the main links among the WPs. Most of them are directly related to WP6 devoted to prototype integration in relevant industrial environment.

WORK PACKAGE 1 |  Coordination and Management

WPL: CNR-ITM

M1-M36

This WP will implement the management adapted to the specificities of the BIOVALUE project.
The overall objective will be to ensure an efficient coordination, especially concerning:

  • Technical and industrial reporting

  • Internal communication

  • Communication and collaboration with interested third parties

WORK PACKAGE 2 |  Membrane architecture for biogas upgrade

WPL: MemBrain

M1-M36

The objectives of this WP concern:

  • To develop specific polymeric membranes based on functional materials with controlled morphology, enhanced CO2, H2S, H2O permeances and improved resistance to contaminants

  • To develop a spinning process innovated on the basis of the membrane properties as predicted by the mesoscale modelling (see WP4)

  • To tune the membrane properties according to the results/requirements of the other work packages

  • To develop prototype of the membrane module for the pilot unit

WORK PACKAGE 3 |  Membrane operations for bio-methane purification at lab-scale

WPL: CNR-ITM

M1-M36

The objectives of this WP:

  • Lab testing of membrane GS units for the selection of the most effective membranes for the prototype

  • Lab testing of membrane GS units for the individuation of the best range of operating conditions

  • Development and testing of membrane condenser for recovery of high added value compounds from biogas

  • Development and testing of membrane pervaporation under mild conditions for VFA/VOCs concentration

  • Durability and long-term tests in presence of contaminants, water vapor, etc.

  • Membrane “autopsy”

WORK PACKAGE 4 |  System design, modelling and process simulation

WPL: UCT-Prague

M1-M32

The objectives of this WP :

  • System design and optimization based on the developed model of process flowsheet including membrane module with hollow fiber membranes. Computer-aided design aimed at tailoring the manufacturing process of hollow fiber membranes

WORK PACKAGE 5 |  Industrial specifications, environmental indicators, LCA

WPL: UNICAL

M1-M24

The main objective of this WP is to define the industrial and environmental detailed specifications for biomethane purity and recovery, VFA recovery, condensed water quality, etc., setting the targets for the BIOVALUE project and the specific technology to be developed in the framework of the project.
Specific objectives will be:

  • The elaboration of targets and key performance indicators for the integrated membrane process

  • The elaboration of scenarios for validation

  • The establishment of standard test conditions

  • Environmental Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Costing.

WORK PACKAGE 6 |  Industrial specifications, environmental indicators, LCA

WPL: Calabra Maceri

M15-M36

The main objective is the design, implementation and construction of a membrane-based integrated process at pilot scale and its integration with a biodigester for validating its performance and demonstrating the proposed system under real conditions on-site.

Documents          Reports

WORK PACKAGE 7 |  Dissemination and exploitation

WPL: UNICAL

M1-M36

The objective of the WP is the harmonization of the dissemination and exploitation activities of the project. A public website will be set up to facilitate the dissemination of publishable project achievements. A workshop will be organized for exchanging the latest results and development of the project. Specific actions will be focused on the training of young students, researchers.
Exploitation strategy will be implemented and a specific attention will be devoted to IPRs.
